TAQA – Training, Assessment and Quality Assurance Practitioners

This new suite of qualifications replaces the A1 and A2 assessor awards and the V1 internal verifier award. These practitioner qualifications are designed to support the assessment and quality assurance of all new QCF qualifications including: Apprenticeships, Functional Skills, Technical Certificates, NVQ’s, Awards, Certificates and Diplomas.
Each qualification includes a full days training followed by one-to-one work with your TAQA assessor at a time to be arranged.

Assessment:
Monday 29 July or Tuesday 17 September or Wednesday 6 November 2013
Verification:
Tuesday 30 July or Wednesday 18 September or Thursday 7 November 2013
Venue:
9.30am – 4.30pm at the Friends Meeting House, Chesterfield S40 4AG. (Approximately 15 minutes from J29 of the M1)
To book onto a specific training day please complete the application form. Confirmation, joining information and an invoice will then be sent to you.
Update Training
If you already have an assessor or verifier qualification (A1, V1, D32, D33, D34) you can update this by attending the one-day workshop. You will receive a certificate of attendance and resources to support a review of best practice in your workplace. Cost: £50
The majority of assessors and verifiers will complete the Certificate, but TAQA qualifications can be taken in a number of combinations described below – if after reading you are not sure which units you need to be doing please call 01298 213511 or email joan@joanpattersonassociates.com
Duration of the programme varies with individual circumstances but is generally 3 – 6 months.
TAQA Assessing Qualifications:
- Level 3 Award in Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment Cost: £300
- Level 3 Award in Assessing Competence in the Work Environment Cost: £550
- Level 3 Award in Assessing Vocationally Related Achievement Cost: £550
- Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement Cost: £750
TAQA Verifying Qualifications:
- Level 4 Award in Understanding the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice Cost: £350.00
- Level 4 Award in the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice Cost: £600.00
- Level 4 Certificate in Leading the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice Cost: £750.00
TAQA IQA Conversion Course for qualified internal verifiers
If you already have D34 or V1 and would like to gain the TAQA Certificate in Leading the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice, you can APL unit 4 and 5. You will attend the verifiers training day and be assessed on unit 8. This involves gathering some workplace evidence and having a professional discussion. Cost £425 + VAT.
TAQA Assessing Qualifications – (replacing A1 and A2)
Level 3 Award in Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment
(1 unit, 3 credits) £300 + VAT
A knowledge-only Award for those who need to know about assessment but who are not currently practicing e.g. aspiring assessors or quality managers. This award can be achieved by participating in the one day workshop and is assessed by professional discussion with your TAQA assessor.
This award has one unit:
- Unit 1 Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment (3 credits)
Level 3 Award in Assessing Competence in the Work Environment (2 units, 9 credits) £550
For practitioners who assess the achievement of competence in a work environment using some of the following assessment methods: observation, examining work products, oral questioning and discussion, use of others (e.g. witnesses), learner statements and Recognising Prior Attainment (RPA). This award can be achieved by attending the one day workshop and is assessed by professional discussion, workplace observation and a portfolio of work product evidence.
This Award has 2 units:
- Unit 1 Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment (3 credits)
- Unit 2 Assess Occupational Competence in the Work Environment (6 credits)
Level 3 Award in Assessing Vocationally Related Achievement (2 units, 9 credits) £550
For practitioners who assess achievement in vocationally-related situations e.g. classrooms or workshops and who use some of the following assessment methods: assessments in simulated environments, skills tests, oral and written questions, assignments, projects, case studies and RPA. This award can be achieved by attending the one day workshop and is assessed by professional discussion, workplace observation and a portfolio of workplace evidence.
This Award has 2 units:
- Unit 1 Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment (3 credits)
- Unit 3: Assessing Vocational Skills, Knowledge and Understanding (6 credits)
Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (15 credits) £750
For practitioners who assess performance in the workplace and also assess knowledge. This certificate can be achieved by attending the one day workshop and is assessed by professional discussion, workplace observation and a portfolio of workplace evidence.
This Certificate contains all three units of the two Awards:
- Unit 1 Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment (3 credits)
- Unit 2 Assess Occupational Competence in the Work Environment (6 credits)
- Unit 3 Assessing Vocational Skills, Knowledge and Understanding (6 credits)
Individual Units
Each of the assessor units can be undertaken separately at a cost of £300
TAQA Verifying Qualifications – replacing V1
Level 4 Award in Understanding the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice (1 unit, 6 credits) £350.00
A knowledge-only Award for those who need to know about internal quality assurance but who are not carrying out quality assurance themselves. These may be experienced assessors or centre managers for example. This award can be achieved by participating in the one day workshop and is assessed by professional discussion with your TAQA assessor.
This award has one unit:
- Unit 4 Understanding the Principles and Practices of Internally Assuring the Quality of Assessment (6 credits)
Level 4 Award in the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice (2 units, 12 credits) £600
For practitioners who conduct internal quality assurance of the assessment process. This will include sample planning, monitoring and advising assessors. This award can be achieved by attending the one day verification workshop and is assessed by professional discussion, workplace observation and a portfolio of work product evidence.
This award has 2 units:
- Unit 4 Understanding the Principles and Practices of Internally Assuring the Quality of Assessment (6 credits)
- Unit 5 Internally Assure the Quality of Assessment (6 credits)
Level 4 Certificate in Leading the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice (3 units, 17 credits) £750
For practitioners who lead the internal quality assurance process and have a responsibility for managing the quality of the performance of assessors. They may also develop systems and lead on visits from outside agencies such as awarding organisations. This award can be achieved by attending the one day verification workshop and is assessed by professional discussion, workplace observation and a portfolio of work product evidence.
This Certificate has 3 units:
- Unit 4 Understanding the Principles and Practices of Internally Assuring the Quality of Assessment (6 credits)
- Unit 5 Internally Assure the Quality of Assessment (6 credits)
- Unit 8 Plan, Allocate & Monitor Work in Own Area of Responsibility (5 credits)
Individual Units
Each of the verifier units can be undertaken separately at a cost of £350
